Trainee paramedics in need of ambulance driver training should be aware that due to the gross weight of an ambulance usually exceeding 3.5 tons, a normal driving license won’t be sufficient. To drive one, you will need an HGV 7.5-ton license, which involves obtaining an HGV C1 license....
uo;ll break down the steps required to obtain your HGV C1 license below.
D4 Drivers Medical
The DVLA requires you to undergo medical examinations before you can drive an ambulance. As part of this medical, a general physical examination and an eye examination are required. A provisional C1 licence will be issued after these tests have been approved by the DVLA
Theory Test & Hazard Perception
Your next step will be to prepare for the C1 HGV theory test and the hazard perception test. Craig Baker Driver Training provides all the study materials you need. We can also provide theory test preparation lessons if you need them. The DVSA offers a number of official test centres where we can book your test once you feel confident. We can help you with this too. Once you have passed your theory tests, you will be ready to begin your driving lessons.
Practical C1 Ambulance Driving Test
Preparing for the 3A practical reversing test is the next step. You will be instructed by our professional instructors on how to perform the reversing exercise. After the completion of this process, you will be able to drive on the road and prepare for the 3B practical driving test once it is complete.
Once you have passed the 3B test you will be fully qualified to drive ambulances up to 7.5ton
